Volunteer to Help us with our Cause
Bob Koll Sailing Volunteers give back to the community while sharing the sport
they love. If you already have sailing skills, we can take you to the next level. If
you’re just a beginner hoping for a deeper understanding of boating, there is no
better way to learn than to get involved. The sailing community is small and
close knit. Come and join us!
Our volunteers help teach aboard Blacksilver, our flagship sailing vessel
and/or a number types of vessels at the Newport Sea Base. At the Base, we
help youth and other non-profit community groups learn the basics of sailing,
from cruising and racing to seamanship ways and life building skills. We
promote communication skills between helm and trimmers, and give advice on
how to handle adverse situations without recrimination. We then encourage
those that have developed sound skills to race and/or cruise on Blacksilver and
other sailing and power boats. The emphasis is very much on teamwork. Many
of our youth and other groups in our program along with our volunteers are now
very much bitten with the racing and cruising bug and are keen to continue their
sailing education. All volunteer orientations are taught aboard Blacksilver, our
flagship program boat.
